If the Battlestar Galactica in Universal Studios Singapore seems boring to you, then maybe you need something else. You might want to try the Takashiba at the Fuji-Q Highland amusement park in Japan. Takashiba is the world’s steepest roller coaster which accelerates to 100 km/h. It has 43m drop and a 121-degree freefall. It’s pretty sick and makes the Battlestar Galactica a piece of cake!

The ride costs $12.50 and takes 112 seconds to finish. Fuji-Q Highland spent $37 million in the development of Takashiba. Here’s the video of a press preview. Damn, sick!

Watching the clip above, I can feel the muscles on my neck tighten. I just can’t imagine how it would feel riding the Takashiba.

Here’s another video from the off ride.

Right now, I’m still happy with the Battlestar Galactica. No thanks, Takashiba.

This post is contributed by Jackylyn, a Filipino IT professional from Singapore. She has rode on numerous roller coaster from the Loop at Star City to the Shuttle at Enchanted Kingdom and all the roller coasters in Ocean Park Hongkong. But her current crowning glory is the Battlestar Galactica in Universal Studios in Singapore.

The Inn has 4 standard rooms, 4 deluxe garden rooms, 3 ocean view suites and two large family room.

The rooms here are pretty basic and decorated in traditional Filipino style. All rooms have air-conditioning, hot and cold water, cable TV and wireless internet connection. Pretty much all you’ll need for a vacation in this paradise island of Boracay. There is an on-site dive centre and restaurant that uses mangos in many of their dishes, so you won’t need to travel fare for food or fun.

The standard rooms cost US$38 at low season and US$72 at peak season. However, these get snapped up quickly, so it’s best to book them in advance.

There are festivals all year round in the Philippines but only few really make a mark to the minds of the people. One them is the MassKara Festival in Bacolod City, the capital of Negros. The festival’s original concept was to show hardships of the people of Negros and a tool of escapism during the sugar market crash of the early 1980s. Negros, being the sugar basket of the Philippines was hit hard by the downturn. The festival instills among its citizens the culture of escapism and obscurantism, where they have to accept and forget their sufferings caused by the exploitation and oppression of the landlords. The term MassKara came from the words “mass”, meaning crowd, and the Spanish word “cara” meaning face.

Photo by Fitz Villafuerte | More Info

The smiling mask, adopted by the organizers as the festival’s symbol, dramatize the Negrenses’ happy spirit despite the periodic economic downturns in the sugar industry. Though the years, it has become a popular tourist attraction and a must see event for both local and foreign tourists. The main event of the festival is the street dancing reminiscent of the Rio de Janerio’s street dancing festival.

From the festival, the smiling masks have become the city’s symbol, thus earning its tag as the “City of Smile.” This annual festival, which has become one of Philippines best known tourist attraction, has been earning raves both from local and foreign tourists. Masskara Festival has also been judged the most beautiful and colorful festival among the various contingents from other countries. Also during the festival, the city’s public plaza is brought alive into a huge beer garden.

Due to the festival’s popularity, expect the hotels in Bacolod to be fully booked weeks or even months in advance.

Caramoan Islands is a popular tourist destination in the province of Camarines Sur in the Bicol Region. Popular tourist destinations here includes the Caramoan National Park, the Centro, and Gota Beach. Popular activities include diving, swimming, snorkeling and spelunking. And as the neighboring islands get explored, more and more exciting activities and attractions are being found. For instance, one of the islands features an underground river where tourists can now enter much like what you can do and see in Palawan’s Subterranean River.

The popularity of this almost untouched paradise grew when it was chosen as the location for Survivor France in 2008. It also hosted other international versions of like Survivor Israel, Sweden, Bulgaria and Serbia. It is believed that the island’s remoteness and being wild and far away from the crowd made the place ideal for the Survivor series where it is necessary that contestants don’t see anything other than nature for them to believe that they’re really lost in the wilds. At least three of the islands, including Gota Village Resort, is closed to the public whenever there’s a shooting of Survivor.

The popularity of the islands grew stronger after the place has been featured in the news and local television programs. Local and foreign travelers started to explore the beaches of the peninsula. Add to that is the proximity of the islands in the famed CamSur Watersports Complex which is equally popular for the backpackers and adventurous tourists.

Here’s one of the promotional videos of the provincial government for Caramoan Islands.

How To Get There

The main gateway to Caramoan Islands is through Sabang Port. It’s about 1.5 hours from the Central Business District of Naga City. And to get to Naga City, you can drive from Manila all the way to Naga CBD via South Luzon Expressway for a long but enjoyable road trip. There are also direct fllights from Manila to Pili Airport. Once in Naga City, there are jeepneys and shuttle(van) that goes to Sabang Port. But the easiest way of getting to Caramoan via Naga is by dropping by the CamSur Tourism Office where they organize transport for the tourists.

Here’s another video featuring Caramoan Islands.

Right on the shores of the world-famous Taal Lake and across from its volcano is a place where you can relax, connect and be with nature. Club Balai Isabel offers an option for an active lifestyle with all the comforts of city living. The resort offers an up-close and personal view of the lake and the world-famous active volcano. It is a mere fifteen minutes away from Tagaytay Rigdge and about two hours away from Manila via SLEX-Sta. Rosa.

For years, Tagaytay has been made famous by its view of Taal Lake and its volcano. However, the lakeside towns never became tourist destinations due to the lack of resort facilities. That is until Techno-Asia ventured into hospitality industry and Club Balai Isabel was born. Techno-Asia’s brand promise of creating lasting relationships and Filipino hospitality translate well into the resort setting, and is the reason for its quick rise to success. Today, Techno-Asia’s vision has grown from a four-hectare private subdivision to a nine-hectare resort.
