Amanpulo Resort – Pamalican Islands

Sitting in the middle of nowhere is a paradise named Amanpulo. It is a luxury resort situated on the famous Pamalican Island, a 5.5 kilometer-long 90-hectare private island among the Cuyo group of islands in central Philippines just atop of the Sulu sea. This island is surrounded by seven kilometers of white sand and coral reefs.

The marine environment around the island was declared a protected zone. Fishing and docking are prohibited. Pamalican has a superb beach, five-and-a-half kilometers long on the side where the resort is located. It is wilder and windier on the other side which is another kind of attraction altogether.

Accomodation

There are about 29 seafront accomodations called casitas(guesthouses) that are a few steps away from the beach and yet still discreetly hidden by the trees for privacy. These casitas, all inspired by the local “bahay kubo” and concieved in neutral colors, are designed by a renowned Filipino architect Bobby Manosa. They are all made out of native materials including the furnitures on its interiors. On top of that, it has cool wooden floors, floor-to-ceiling glass windows, and a wonderfully large bathroom space.

Guests can choose to stay in the beach casitas which have the best location along the beach; in the tree top casitas nestled in the branches of large trees; or in the hillside casitas perched on the hill’s summit, offering a spectacular view of the sea.

7 Hillside Casitas
4 Treetop Casitas

All the accommodations are extra ordinary in terms of both size and luxury. The rooms are huge-at least 65 square meters-and bright because of immense picture windows. Beige walls, polished wood floors, interior shutters, designer rattan furniture and beautiful accessories crafted locally, complete the interior design.

The Perfect Beach

Amanpulo’s pristine beaches is the main reason why many people from around the world travel in this small island which is too far from civilization. It’s white sands are so pure and soft as a baby powder. But it’s remoteness is also part of its drawing power that’s why people are willing to travel half way around the world and spend a small fortune just to stay here. Besides, there’s something incredibly luxurious about having a beautiful beach all to one’s self in this age of pollution, overpopulation and over development (yes, we’re talking about Boracay!).

The Stellar Service

For its regular visitors, the best feature of Amanpulo is its stellar service second to none. The resort will give you the impression that in this small paradise, you can have everything. You can have a full American breakfast by the beach, a haircut on the verandah or a Margarita pizza and they’ll all be served to you. Considering that it sits on a middle of nowher – the nearest large city is at least 8 hours away by boats- makes the service even more impressive.

And more than anything, the service here is also very personalized. So much so that they call their guest by the name. That’s an astounding feat considering the number of guests who stays here at any given time.

How to Get There

Amanpulo is accessed by scheduled charter flight from Manila. Guests fly directly to Pamalican Island in a 19-seater, twin-engine turboprop, landing at the resort’s private airstrip. Flight time is about an hour. Actually, the joy of an Amanpulo holiday begins a few minutes before touchdown when you see the clear azure waters around the island.

Since Amanpulo is an ultra exclusive resort, quite a number of their regular guests arrive here via their private jets and yatchs.
